Biography

Dr. Lozano Argüelles' work focuses on how interpreting experience shapes second language processing abilities, with particular emphasis on predictive processing strategies employed by professional interpreters compared to non-interpreter bilinguals. Her eye-tracking studies have yielded insights into how the unique cognitive demands of simultaneous interpretation may enhance anticipatory language processing and attentional control. Her current research portfolio includes two major funded projects: developing methodologically robust placement assessments for heritage speakers of Spanish (Department of Education) and designing an innovative bilingual curriculum for Criminal Justice majors (National Science Foundation). These projects bridge theoretical psycholinguistic research with practical applications in educational contexts. Dr. Lozano Argüelles' interdisciplinary approach combines psycholinguistics, interpreting, and applied linguistics, making her work relevant to multiple research communities. Her findings contribute to our fundamental understanding of bilingual cognition while simultaneously informing pedagogical practices and language policy in higher education.

Beyond her academic research, she is deeply committed to giving back to both students and the broader community. She also extends her passion for language and learning to the public through engaging educational content on Substack and LinkedIn (formerly on TikTok too), where she shares insights on language acquisition, translation, and interpreting—making complex linguistic concepts accessible to a wider audience.
